The problem of using petroleum fuel is unresolved because it is irreversible. Alternative energy is needed to overcome the availability of increasingly scarce fossil energy sources and the increasing demand for these energy sources. Biomass is a source of alternative energy conversion materials through a pyrolysis process using a catalyst in the form of Bio-oil. Bio-oil is produced from the pyrolysis of biomass to produce oxygenated products and carboxylic acids contained in bio-oil. The research found that using catalysts in the pyrolysis process with several types of catalysts supports the formation of hydrocarbons and improves the properties or quality of bio-oil, producing products comparable to those of fossil fuels. Research on manufacturing liquid fuels from crude oil biofuels using the zeolite catalyst method can increase hydrocarbon compounds for alternative energy. The selection of catalysts for biofuel production is expected to improve bio-oil quality, which has high carbonate characteristics and produces large amounts. Therefore the use of catalysts can improve the quality of bio-oil, which is consistent with increasing the yield of hydrocarbons.
